The Governing Council of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul observed that candidates from remote and rural areas are unable to meet the selection parameters in view of their poor academic background. It was noted that most of them come from Government Schools and require some hand holding for ensuring their confidence and knowledge base to meet the requirement of the competitive examination. It was suggested that a training programme, if conducted by the Shrine Board for a week or so, preferably around a month before the tests, would be a positive intervention in this context. The suggestion was agreed that Shrine Board should conduct such a training programme for the students coming from Baridar families and those belonging to village Purana Daroor. It was also agreed that proper publicity must be given to such training programme prior to its conduct so that the targeted students may avail of the same.
Accordingly, the training programme for the candidates hailing from Purana Daroor / erstwhile Baridar areas, desirous to seek admission to Class 6th in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul is conducted last week of the December month every year, in which maximum of 20 candidates participates. The said training programme is fully residential and the participating candidates are provided with study material, coaching, boarding and lodging in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Spiritual Growth Centre, Katra free of cost. So far 05 such coaching camps have been organized.
